Medigap Plan M is a Supplement option created by the Medicare Modernization Act in 2010. Plan M provides the same basic benefits as other Supplement options, but it has a lower monthly premium in exchange for cost-sharing of the Medicare Part A hospital deductible. You are also responsible for the full cost of your Part B outpatient deductible on this plan.
This plan may work well for you if you don’t foresee many hospital visits, and are comfortable with the financial responsibility of paying half of your Part A deductible and your entire Part B deductible. The lower monthly rate is sometimes worth the risk of some of these expenses, but it is best to discuss this with a licensed professional.
In most states, insurance companies are allowed to choose which Medicare Supplement plans they carry. Because fewer people choose cost-sharing plans, whether its because they don’t understand them or they fear the expense, often there are few companies that offer Plan M. We can help you find which companies offer this plan to save you the time you would spend searching.
