Medicare Supplement Plan A, also known as Medigap Plan A, is the most basic Medicare Supplement Plan.
Most importantly, Plan A covers the 20% of outpatient treatment that Medicare Part B does not cover. It also includes coverage of Medicare Part A coinsurance and hospital costs, Medicare Part A coinsurance and copays, and Part A hospice care coinsurance and copays.
This plan is often looked past because it doesn’t have as many benefits as other plans, but it is still a great plan!
Medicare Plan A is available in most states to people under age 65 who qualify for Medicare due to disability. This insurance plan is available during your Open Enrollment Period with medical underwriting.
It’s important to note that when purchasing this plan as someone under 65, you may be charged up to 3x what someone 65 or over will pay. This is because people who qualify for Medicare due to disability often have much higher medical costs than the average person 65 or over, and those costs could get passed to you through high rates and rate increases.
If you choose Medigap Plan A as someone age 65 or over, it will be priced like any other Supplement plan, but it is often overlooked for the more popular, fuller coverage plans like Plan F and G.
Sometimes people confuse Medicare Plan A with Medicare Part A, or they think they are the same thing. This is not the case. Medicare Supplement Plan A is one of the Supplement plans that are to help fill in the gaps in coverage that Medicare leaves. Medicare Part A is part of Original Medicare to cover hospital visits.

Did you know…
People turning 65 can get Medicare coverage from over 30+ companies with no health questions?
Here’s how it works
When someone turns 65 or enrolls in Medicare Part B for the first time (whichever comes later) they become eligible for the Medicare Initial Open Enrollment Period.
The signup period begins 3-6 months before starting Part B (age 65 for most) and continues for 3-6 months after Part B starts.
This means that any and all Medicare Supplement plans must accept you regardless of previous health status.
Medicare Supplement Plan benefits are standardized, the only difference is PRICE!
Insurance companies offer the same plan letters (A,B,C,D,F,G,K,L,M, or N) and the benefits with each company compare apples-to-apples…
Medicare Supplement (otherwise known as Medigap) plans are renewable for life. No requirement to change each year.
All standard Medicare Supplement plans are accepted by any doctor that accepts Medicare NATIONWIDE
Medicare Advantage and Part D plans have Annual Enrollment periods and change yearly.
